Immersive Codex themes

Make Codex feel like your place.

Turn an image you love into a focused, readable Codex workspace. Build locally in your browser, preview the real surfaces, and export without handing a theme author the ability to run code.

Two modes.Native colors or immersive skin.

Theme gallery

A mood for every kind of work.

Original scenes, playful concepts and layout inspiration—built around usable code contrast, not decoration alone.

Browse all themes

Concept previews featuring people or recognizable IP are layout inspiration only. Bring properly licensed artwork for public or commercial use.

How it works

From image to installed skin in minutes.

The builder keeps the creative decisions visible and the technical payload deliberately boring.

01

Choose a mood

Start with an original theme or bring an image you have the right to use.

02

Tune the workspace

Set the crop, dimming, blur and panel opacity while watching a realistic Codex preview.

03

Check readability

See live contrast guidance for text, controls, diffs and accent colors before you export.

04

Install reversibly

Use a native theme string or a data-only Dream Skin package with the open-source engine.

Live controls

Change the atmosphere, not the way you work.

Native when you want simple. Immersive when you want more.

No local engine

Native Codex theme

Generate a codex-theme-v1 string for surface, ink, accent and semantic colors. Copy it into Codex and keep every window fully opaque.

  • Official theme data format
  • Dark or light variant
  • No background image

Open-source engine

Dream Skin package

Add a local background image, controlled dimming, frosted panels and layout decoration. The exported package remains data only and the engine stays reviewable.

  • Image and layout settings
  • Allowlisted theme fields
  • Pause and restore path

Your picture does not need a round trip.

The browser handles upload, crop, preview, palette extraction and WebP compression on your device. We measure page visits only after consent; we do not read your Codex conversations, projects, API keys or model configuration.

Common questions

Know what changes before you install.

Does CodexSkin upload my picture?+

No. The builder reads, crops and compresses your image in the browser. It is not sent to our server unless a future upload feature asks for separate, explicit permission.

Is this an official OpenAI product?+

No. CodexSkin is an independent community project. Codex and OpenAI remain the property of their respective owners.

Can a theme run code?+

A CodexSkin theme package is data only. It contains JSON, images, a license and signature metadata. Theme authors cannot add JavaScript, shell commands, PowerShell or arbitrary CSS.

Can I use celebrity or character art?+

Only when you have the necessary rights. Portrait and pop-culture previews in the concept gallery demonstrate layouts; they are not offered as commercially licensed assets.
